GRAÇA NEIGHBOURHOOD
The best way to get to Graça is to take the legendary 28 tram, which passes 100 metres from the flat and runs through all the historic areas of the city.
There are also several buses that will take you to various key points in the city.
Finally the "Martim Moniz" Metro station is a 10 min walk away.
Graça sits atop one of Lisbon's seven hills.
This peaceful district boasts magnificent views and architectural treasures: churches and convents, working-class villas and aristocratic quarters. Graça has the charm of an ageless Lisbon, the Lisbon of romantic and warm fado.
The "Senhora do Monte" lookout is spectacular; it is the highest point in the whole city.
A HISTORICAL NEIGHBOURHOOD
At the time of the Christian reconquest, Graça was a gigantic olive grove occupied by Arab peasants. The Augustinian monks chose this "village" outside the walls to build their religious edifices. From the 15th century onwards - the period of the Great Discoveries - aristocrats invested in the district, renowned for its pure air. During the industrial revolution, around 1850, the first working-class villas were built.
