Brief description:
The luxurious Villa Pilias is located about 80 metres above the sea in olive groves on the edge of the mini village of Kamaria. The house was completed in 2012 and has pretty much everything you need for a perfect holiday, ideal for a Mediterranean winter holiday.
Location description:
Despite its altitude, Villa Pilias is only 800 metres from the approximately 3 km long sandy beach Kamaria Beach, in the middle of which nudism is common. The nearest typical Greek taverna is 250 metres away and the supermarket and a butcher's shop are only 800 metres away. Another taverna has opened about 500 metres away in Kamaria. Both are closed in winter, but there are open tavernas in Finikounda (4 km), Methoni (10 km), Pylos or Koroni (20 km each). The unpaved road to Villa Pilias is rarely used by cars and pedestrians, mostly by the residents of the other 6 houses. Therefore, it is extremely quiet at Villa Pilias.
Features:
Light, high rooms with wooden ceilings can be found in Villa Pilias. 3 bedrooms with double beds, 2 complete bathrooms with showers, in the main bathroom there is a double sink. In the three bedrooms, air conditioning keeps you cool in hot weather. In addition, the entire villa can be cooled via the underfloor heating. In winter, an electric boiler or a wood-burning stove in the living room, which is connected to the underfloor heating with water pockets, provides warmth throughout the house. The focal point is the large eat-in kitchen with a dining area in a bay window and a sofa bed in front of the Full HD TV, which receives all free-to-air programmes. There is also a smaller Full HD television in one of the bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with crockery, appliances such as an oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave and additional food processor and a 500 degree HIghtech electric grill for outside. There is also a washing machine for sufficient hand, bath and beach towels. In the large bookcase there are also Greek cookery books and a hiking book with 17 well-described routes for southern Messinia. And you can find out about free guided hikes in spring, autumn and winter from the freewalkers. A huge awning has been installed on the terrace as sun protection, which can be retracted in winter. Villa Pilias is oriented in such a way that it keeps out the cold north wind on the terrace in autumn, winter or spring.
Outdoor area:
Villa Pilias is situated on its own, surrounded by olive trees and cypresses. In front of the house there is space for 3 cars on the barely used road. The path, which leads over 250 metres from the asphalt road to Villa Pilias, continues towards the sea, but is then only accessible by off-road vehicles.
Olives, oranges, lemons, mandarins, figs and pomegranates grow in the large Mediterranean garden. The garden is in a natural state, so enter at your own risk. The large terrace offers a postcard view of the mountains and sea and in front of the kitchen there is another outdoor seating area under an olive tree, separated from the path by oleanders. Below this is an outdoor shower between Bourgonvillea flowers and oleander as a privacy screen. There is also hot water from the Greek sun from the solar collector or the electric boiler.
Special features:
Villa Pilias is a paradise for slowing down. In the master bedroom, you are often woken up in the morning by a cock crowing and the Greek sun. You open your eyes and look out over the sea from your bed. Or not, if the thick aluminium shutters and double-glazed windows are closed. It is almost frighteningly quiet in and around Villa Pilias, even in the high season. Villa Pilias is very suitable for long-term holidaymakers in winter, as there is so much to see in Messinia and the Peloponnese: Olympia, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth, the Greek wine route, the market in Kalamata and the numerous sights, the castles in Methoni, Pylos and Koroni. A free guided hike starts every Saturday from autumn to spring. A hiking book with 17 precisely described routes is also available at Villa Pilias. A new trend is cycling, e-bikes and others can be rented in Finikounda, 4 km away, but closed in winter.
General information:
Arrival from 16:00
Departure by 10:00
Beach holidays are unaffordable? Not in Messinia, because in tavernas you can enjoy Greek cuisine with a starter, main course and half a litre of wine for less than 20 euros. Even delicious freshly caught fish is available for 10 to 15 euros, otherwise main courses often cost 10 euros plus or minus 3 euros. And even on the beach, you only have to pay a little over 6 euros for sun loungers and parasols, plus half a litre of wine. Added to this are the inexpensive rents at Villa Pilias. A Mediterranean winter holiday at Villa Pilias is very reasonably priced: just 11 euros to 22 euros per person per night with full occupancy plus additional costs. Villa Pilias is heated by underfloor heating, which is heated by the wood-burning stove with water pockets. There is also an electric boiler in the basement. In the high season, around 15 August, many Athenians go on holiday to Finikounda and Methoni, but you won't notice anything of this at Villa Pilias. Otherwise, the villages and tavernas are almost empty, as are the seven fantastic sandy beaches within a radius of 10 kilometres. But even in the high season there is an almost empty sandy beach. You can find out about this insider tip in a folder with lots of tips in Villa Pilias. The German couple in charge of check-in and check-out and solving any problems have also lived in Kamaria for 30 years.
Additional price information:
