Turrock Cottage is situated along the Wicklow Way, on the east side of Stookeen Hill, with views over South Wicklow and North Wexford. Eircode is Y14F308.
The cottage is within a farmyard, and close to the main house where we live. We are close to Shillelagh and Tinahely villages, and the cottage is an ideal base for exploring the delights of both Wicklow and Wexford. Avoca, the Ballykissangel village, is just 25kms away while Dublin is 70 kms away. Both the medieval city of Kilkenny and Glendalough are less than an hour’s drive away.
An ancient oak forest, Tomnafinnogue Wood, is a beautiful place to walk, any time of year and the beautiful Altamont Gardens and Huntington Castle are always worth a visit. Horse riding, fishing and the Coolattin Golf Club are all available locally. No visit to Turrock is complete without a visit to the Dying Cow pub where you can relax and look at the views, hear some traditional music being played by local musicians and while away the hours.
For walkers, we are on the Tinahely to Clonegal leg of the Wicklow Way and are close to the Tinahely loop walks which cater for walkers of varying fitness levels.
We are a perfect location for guests attending weddings at Ballybeg House,Lisnavagh House or Mount Wolseley Hotel. We are a 12 minute drive to Ballybeg House and 15 minutes to both Lisnavagh House and the Mount Wolseley.
Our traditional stone cottage sleeps 5 in comfort but can accommodate 6 by request,if 3 sleep in the downstairs bedroom. There is a triple room, a double room and a single bed loft above the wood-burning stove fireplace. The dining area/kitchen is very spacious with a high ceiling allowing plenty of light and is complete with a large Belfast sink and traditional pine dresser. The large dining table seats 6 comfortably on traditional Bentwood chairs, but will squeeze in more if visitors arrive. The table is perfect for hosting long, lazy breakfasts and cosy, evening meals while the stove with its dramatic granite chimney breast heats the radiators throughout the cottage keeping it warm and comfortable. The kitchen is fitted out with dishwasher, fridge, microwave and washing machine. Local carpenters and wood-turners have crafted the many presses, worktops and lamp stands giving the cottage a warm, rustic feel. For wet or winter days, a CD/TV is available as well as a small library with a section of books, DVDS, magazines, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and Scrabble for those who crave excitement! A small sitting room with sofa and doors opening onto a raised stone deck continues on from the kitchen area. Outside furniture is available for those long, hot summer evenings when all you want to do is look at the magnificent views while having a cup of tea or glass of wine. Unfortunately internet is not currently available.
The bedrooms have exposed timber flooring while the kitchen and bathroom have traditional black slate tiles. The wet room/bathroom has a traditional Belfast sink and walk-in electric shower with stones foraged from Wicklow and Wexford beaches that massage your feet while you wash away the stresses of the day.
Sit out on the raised stone deck area and admire the views, listen to the donkeys serenading and the roosters and goat providing the perfect soundtrack to your day. Later in the evening, you may spot deer, see bats leaving their ‘batcave’ for their nightly flight; in early May you may be lucky enough to hear the cuckoo.
Our hens and ducks provide perfect eggs for breakfast when they are laying and our 2 ‘outside’ cats may come looking for attention. Brayden and Alex, our donkeys, are delighted to see new people who might give them the odd carrot. Juno, our dog is very friendly and cannot get enough attention.
Our 4 peacocks are a pleasure to watch especially the males Pluto and Apollo with their amazing display of colour and magnificent tail feathers.

Beautiful and cozy cabin. The pictures don’t do the cottage enough justice. We felt right at home and enjoyed hanging out on the porch with the peacock! We are definitely going to rebook in a couple years and come visit again! The drive getting to the cottage was definitely an experience! I would recommend this cottage to anyone!

The most beautiful and quaint cottage we have ever had the pleasure to visit. The hosts were so attentive and supplied kitchen staples for our arrival. Property is spotlessly clean as well. A real gem!!
