The accommodation includes a wood fired hot tub so they you may make the most of the star watching opportunities of given by the Dark Skies. The large patio doors and deck area make it easy to enjoy the breathtaking views over the loch to hills beyond, the deck area also makes a pleasant place for al fresco dining. There is direct access to Forestry Commission trails to allow unrivalled opportunities for outdoor pursuits and seeing the wildlife of the area including Red Kites, Ospreys and even possibly Golden Eagles. The Ospreys regularly visit the loch and near by Loch Doon also has an Osprey observatory with a web cam link to the local nest.
Although in a rural setting the market towns of Castle Douglas and Ayr are both within easy reach together with the superb beaches along the Solway Firth and Clyde Coast.
South West Scotland offers superb opportunities for exploring Scotland's heritage. This includes the deserted village of Polmaddie which is only about 2 miles further into the forest park from the pod. This site is maintained by the Forestry Commission with full information boards. Fishing is available at many locations close by as are the well known 7stanes mountain bike trails. There are many famous sites relating to both King Robert the Bruce and Rabbie Burns nearby including easy access to the Burns trail and birthplace museum. Robert I, known as Robert the Bruce, was the Scottish king who secured Scotland's independence from England in 1324, his statue stands at the centre of Lochmaben.
