Modbury 6 miles.
Quarterdeck is an aptly named property, being perched above Bigbury-on-Sea. Directly overlooking Burgh Island, it commands a stunning, south-facing panoramic view of Bigbury Bay, stretching from Bolt Tail in the east to Stoke Point in the west.
The sitting room and all the bedrooms have sea views.
From this cottage, it is just a five-minute walk down a quiet, no-through road to the South West Coast Path and Bigbury Beach, one of the loveliest sandy beaches in the South West.
As you enter the cottage, you first pass the utility room, ideal for drying wetsuits and swimwear.
Next you will pass the kitchen on the way to the hallway where you can go left to the bedrooms and bathroom, or right to the open plan sitting room with dining area.
Step outside for alfresco meals in the spacious lawned garden or watch the sun setting over the coast or spot the Eddystone Lighthouse twinkling at night far out to sea. There is so much to do at Bigbury throughout the year.
Guests can take a ride on the unique sea-tractor at high tide across the causeway to Burgh Island and explore this magical island, taking time to stop for a drink or snack in the old fishermans pub, the Pilchard Inn. For that special occasion there is nowhere better or grander than The Burgh Island Hotel, celebrated for its Art Deco design and for the inspiration it gave to its regular visitor, Agatha Christie, to write one of her best known murder mysteries, And Then There Were None.
Perfect for classic bucket-and-spade holidays, Bigbury-on-Sea is also ideal for surfing, windsurfing and kayaking.
Equipment hire and lessons can be booked for all of these activities at the Discovery Surf School.
Also located by the beach is the Venus Cafe, which serves delicious, organic and free-range food throughout the year.
Bigbury Golf Club, noted for its friendliness, is also open all year round.
Keen walkers will be spoilt for choice here with some of the most spectacular stretches on the South West Devon Coast Path being right on the doorstep.
For anyone who can tear themselves away from this idyllic location, the charming towns of Modbury, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all close by, whilst Plymouth, Dartmouth and the wild open spaces of Dartmoor are also all within easy reach.
With so much to do and so many options available, Quarterdeck is the perfect spot for a holiday at any time of year.

We enjoyed our stay at Quarterdeck very much
The property was immaculately clean on arrival and is very spacious with
spectacular views of Burgh Island and the sea.
The facilities were as advertised and the local walks and beach are the best in Devon.

Lovely property which is very well equipped.
With superb sea views from every window, a large garden which surrounds the bungalow on all sides - this place is special!
I too was concerned about the absence of gates on the property, owning a rather inquisitive young Labrador, but solved this problem by taking a mesh zigzag! (Amazon) which fitted across the opening.
Would certainly go again.

We had a wonderful week here. The location is outstanding and only drawback for two elderly people was steep hill back from the beach but without this there would not be the amazing views.
