Cartmel Cottage is charming, stone-built, end-terrace cottage, just off the main square in the historic Wensleydale town of Middleham, 2.5 miles from Leyburn.
Dating from circa 1850, the cottage features an open plan living area with exposed ceiling beams, a wood-burning stove, a modern, well-equipped kitchen and an open staircase leading to the two bedrooms.
Outside, there is a small front garden (adjacent to road) with a seating area, from which guests can watch racehorses trot past each day from the nearby stables. The amenities of Middleham are close-at-hand, including excellent traditional pubs and local eateries. Known as the Windsor of the North, Middleham is nestled between the rivers Ure and Cover.
Its Georgian and Victorian building are dominated by a 12th century castle, which was owned by the Kingmaker Earl of Warwick during the Wars of the Roses.
In 1471 it became the principal northern residence of England's last Plantagenet king, Richard III, following his marriage to Warwicks youngest daughter, Anne Neville.
Wonderful walking can be enjoyed from the doorstep, and market towns such as Richmond, Leyburn, Masham, famous for the Theakston's and Black Sheep breweries, and Hawes, the home of Wensleydale cheese, are within easy reach. Please note that Middleham is a working rural town with farm traffic and horses on the roads from early in the morning, Middleham is also a tourist destination so there can be expected tourist traffic in high seasons.

A lovely cosy cottage, well placed in the heart of Middleham, close to Charlie Johnston's stables. Watching the horses drift by on the way to the gallops is a great sight.
There is plenty to see and do nearby with good walks from the front door.

Great location, 3 pubs and a mini supermarket in the village. Leyburn was 5 min drive but you could have stayed in the village for walks etc.
Great welcome email with information from the owners.
Small, but comfortable with everything you need. Lovely shower! Internet was good enough for us to do online meetings which was great.
Only improvement - would have loved a smart TV to watch catch up.
