Two miles from the centre of the friendly little Dartmoor town of Chagford, this ancient thatched Devon longhouse sits in its old original farmyard, (no farm animals are kept around the property),now a courtyard surrounded by barns.
Built in medieval times and full of history, it is listed and has amazing ancient features and, since it comes with a cottage in the courtyard, provides flexible accommodation for couples and groups of friends.
An ancient oak door leads you into the cross passage, with utility room and bathroom in the lower part of the house where animals once dozed.
The sitting room is stunning, with traditional open fire in a huge inglenook fireplace and old panelled walls.
Off this is a quiet study with jigsaws and games and a finely tuned Piano.
The kitchen is typical of an old farmhouse with big dining table in the centre and modern electric Aga. Two staircases lead you upstairs to four simple, restful bedrooms with white walls and uneven wood floors.
The sense of history here is amazing, with a wonderful atmosphere.
Outside, the cottage provides a lovely space for anyone who wants peace or independence, with its own kitchen with dining area, sitting room with wood burning stove and two upstairs bedrooms with a bathroom.
Outside, there is plenty of space to wander and dream with a big lawn garden, which does have a 5ft drop so keep an eye on the children, surrounded by 130 acres of traditional Devon fields.
If you come with a group, why not make a party by arranging to hire the medieval threshing barn across the courtyard, which makes a fine space for a banquet or revel (suggested for summer months only). With Dartmoor on the doorstep, this is a great place for walking, cycling, horse riding or touring the area.
Visit Castle Drogo or head to the cathedral city of Exeter.
Hole Farm is also perfectly located for exploring the North or South coastal paths (an hours drive to either!). Chagford: lively, friendly little town (pubs, shops, outdoor swimming pool, tennis) away from main roads in the shelter of high Dartmoor. Past it the River Teign (fishing) hurries through woods and meadows below Castle Drogo (National Trust). Hole Farm is also perfectly located for exploring the North or South coastal paths (an hours drive to either!). Whatever your hopes and dreams for your Devon holiday, Hole Farm is a very special place to stay.

Wonderful and special place: warm and cosy, beautifully furnished, restored and respected. Perfect for a gathering. Perhaps not so great for small children as steep wooden staircases and old brick/slate floors. We were 7 adults, young and old, and a dog, and had the must perfect stay. Thank you so much.

This is a very old historic property and as such one cannot expect 21st century high-spec. amenities. It is certainly a much more comfortable farmhouse than I was brought up in !! Hole Farm made a lovely cross-generational family holiday spot for the week with Chagford being close by for supplies/cafes/pubs.
