Way back, the Lauwersmeer used to be the Lauwerszee.

Artificial hills offer protection against the high tide.

These hills are called wierden in Groningen.

The park is located near Vierhuizen, which is also a real wierde village.

When you go head out exploring the area, you are bound to notice the varied landscape.

Water, vast meadows and woodlands alternate.

Nature in the Lauwersmeer is so special that the area has been designated a National Park.

At Lauwersoog you will find several beaches.

Perfect for those hot days! If you prefer to go sailing, you can rent a boat at various places.

Or go on a day trip to the Wadden Island Schiermonnikoog.

You can get there in no time by ferry.

In the evening when darkness falls, a new experience awaits.

At the Lauwersmeer, it is really dark.

You can stargaze fantastically from one of the special watchtowers.

  A stay longer than 3 weeks will be seen under temporary housing and is not allowed.
  
  As well as the extension or subsequent repetition of a booking.
  
  Bookings and travel groups that do not comply with this may be refused.
• The interior and exterior may vary from one accommodation to another.
• If upon arrival it appears that the travel party is not a family, we may charge an additional group deposit of 50,- per person on the spot.
