Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The peaceful village of Glencoe sits at the western end of Loch Leven and boasts a scattering of houses as well as a small museum, shop and an Inn offering excellent food and refreshments. A popular centre for hill-walkers, climbers and holidaymakers alike, the surrounding area hosts a variety of activities, including many great walking opportunities and an abundance of wildlife not to be missed! Take a trip to the National Trust Visitor Centre to discover the story of the infamous Glencoe Massacre. Travel north across the Ballachulish Bridge towards Fort William and you will pass the Corran Ferry over to the unspoilt Ardnamurchan Peninsula. In Fort William you could take a gondola trip at Nevis Range or drive westwards to the Isles and visit Glenfinnan, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard to rally the clans. You will also find the Glenfinnan viaduct, memorably captured in the Harry Potter films. Alternatively you could follow the coastal route south towards Oban along the shores of Loch Linnhe to Kinlochlaich Gardens, Barcaldine Castle or the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, where rescued seals are nursed back to health before being returned to the wild. A fantastic location for all the family!
