Alfama is Lisbon's most emblematic quarter and one of the most rewarding for walkers and photographers thanks to its medieval alleys and outstanding views. As one of Europe’s oldest neighbourhoods. It was settled as far back as the Iron Age, and later occupied by the Romans, Visigoths and other Germanic tribes, before becoming the heart of Moorish Lisbon. With the conquest of the city by Portugal’s first king in 1147, the Moors were either killed in the siege or segregated in Mouraria, and Alfama became home to the upper classes. It was also the Jewish quarter until the Jews were expelled (together with all other non-Christians who didn’t convert) in 1497. As Lisbon expanded, the wealthy residents moved west, leaving Alfama to the fishing community.

Wonderful balcony- amazing views! Spacious apartment,quiet location. Well equipped kitchen.Very comfortable bed, high end bedding and towels. Caution- elevator is very small and has mirrors which is disorienting-take a small step inside and stop! The building is at the top of a steep hill but view is worth the climb!

Beautiful view and very clean. I was only in town for 1 evening and wish I had more time. Check in was easy. Located on a steep hill, as many places are in the area. I would definitely stay here again.

Very good with minor restrictions
It was not possible to get a handyman. The bed had collapsed. We had to help ourselves. There was only correspondence but no usable bed!
