Tucked into the small hamlet of Monte San Giulio, The Fountain House is a 17th-century home sleeping up to six guests across three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and a top-floor loft.
A mountain-spring fountain outside the front door gives the house its name, its steady flow of clear water a quiet constant throughout a stay. The ground floor holds a living room with a fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen with an antique pizza oven, a smart TV, and free Wi-Fi. Two first-floor bedrooms each open onto a balcony and share a Bisazza mosaic-tiled bathroom with shower.
Parking is available on site. The top-floor suite has wide windows, a double bed with lake views, a Devon & Devon bath, and a Bisazza-tiled shower, with a small loft above offering views of the island of San Giulio.
Two furnished patios and the balconies let you follow the sun through the day. The lakeside village of Pella has restaurants, a well-regarded gelateria, and ferries to the island of San Giulio and the Unesco-listed town of Orta, known for stone rooftops and Villa Crespi, home to chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo.
Hiking trails link the hamlet to Centonara and Egro, and ski areas including Alagna Monte Rosa and Macugnaga are options for winter trips, as are Lake Maggiore, Milan at 90 km, and Turin at 120 km.
