The area and getting around
The Harz National Park was formed in 2006 by the merging of two existing parks: the "Hochharz" and the "Harz" to form an area of approximately 25,000 hectares. In this wonderful gift of nature, more than 2,500 events are held every year to allow visitors to discover the gifts of this national park. In addition to its exceptional green areas, it has forest trails and ski slopes.
What characterises Harz? The Harz mountain range has a very harsh climate and sufficiently varied geology to define the northernmost medium-altitude mountain system in Germany. Within the Harz, habitats are protected to continue their natural process of being born, living and dying, and man's action on forest ecosystems, cliffs, streams and marshes is prevented.
