What would you not miss around here?

The Mont Saint-Michel, Saint-Malo and Cancale.

Where do you send guests to eat?

Le Restaurant des Thermes in Saint-Malo, for the fish. Le Domaine du Limonay, Tirel-Guerin, in La Gouesnière, for seasonal produce. Le Coquillage, Maison de Bricourt, in Cancale, for chef Hugo Roellinger's fish and seafood. Le Bistrot de Cancale, also Maison de Bricourt, on Port-Mer beach, for traditional seaside cooking. And Le Bénétin in Saint-Malo, near the carved rocks, for scallops with citrus caramel and verbena.

What's your favourite local event?

The Route du Rhum in Saint-Malo, the single-handed yacht race that leaves the port for Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe. The race village opens ten days before the start and is a lively place, with Caribbean food to try.

What do you recommend taking home?

There is a lot to take home from Brittany: salted butter caramels, kouign-amann, the very buttery Breton cake, cider and galettes, palets bretons. There are also Breton bowls with your first name on them.

What's your advice for a good stay?

There is so much worth seeing around here that you should stay at least a week and plan a different town each day. I would book a guide for some of it, for the Mont Saint-Michel, or for walking out into the bay where the quicksand is.
