What would you not miss around here?

The Kanzianiberg, one of the best climbing areas in Austria, with hundreds of routes at every grade on those distinctive rock faces. It works for beginners on the via ferrata and for serious sport climbers alike, against a striking backdrop. And in summer the turquoise water is the other half of it.

What's your favourite local event?

European Bike Week. Once a year the whole region becomes a magnet for bikers from everywhere, a week given over to two wheels. You spend the day on the best bends and panorama roads between the lake and the mountains, and the turquoise of the Faaker See is about the most spectacular setting chrome and hot engines could ask for.

What's your advice for a good stay?

The Burgarena Finkenstein. Summer evenings up on the castle ruin are something else, with concerts, cabaret and shows in a historic setting high above the Faaker See. Go to the Burgschenke before the performance and watch the sun go down over the lake.
