A security deposit is an important tool to protect your property from potential damages during a guest's stay. This guide will walk you through configuring a security deposit and collecting it from your guests.

Configuring Your Security Deposit

Step 1: Log in to Your Holidu Account

Visit your Holidu Account and select the property where you want to configure a security deposit. If you manage multiple properties, you'll need to set the deposit for each one individually.

Step 2: Navigate to Pricing Configuration

From the upper left side of your dashboard, select "Configuration" and then click on the "Pricing" section.

Step 3: Set Your Deposit Amount

Scroll down to "Additional Fees" and select "Edit". In the pop-up window, enter your desired security deposit amount and click "Save" to apply it to your property.

How to Collect a Security Deposit

Clear communication with your guests about your chosen collection method is essential. Always include this information in your arrival details.

Collection Methods

  • Cash on Arrival: Collect the deposit in cash when guests check in. This is straightforward and ensures payment before access to the property.
  • Bank Transfer: Request a bank transfer a few days before arrival. This requires advance planning and clear communication with your guests.
  • Payment Apps: Use apps like Bizum (Spain), Swikly (France), or PayPal for faster transactions. These provide convenient digital payment options for guests.

We recommend collecting the security deposit before check-in to ensure coverage for any potential damages. Once you've inspected the property and confirmed it's in good condition, return the deposit to your guest within 14 days of checkout.

Important Considerations

Existing Bookings: Bookings made before your security deposit configuration are not affected. You cannot charge a different amount than what was configured when the guest booked.

Airbnb Bookings: Security deposits are not applicable for Airbnb bookings and it is strictly forbidden to charge them. Airbnb handles property protection through AirCover.

Booking.com Note: While Booking.com may display a requirement for bank transfer collection 7 days before check-in, you remain free to collect cash on arrival. The host is always responsible for collecting and managing the security deposit.
