CIN - National Identification Code for Italian Properties

Italy's Ministry of Tourism has introduced a regulation to promote fairness and transparency in the short-term rental market. As part of Decreto Anticipi No. 145/2023, all non-hotel accommodation providers, including holiday rentals, are required to obtain a National Identification Code (CIN).

What is the CIN?

The CIN is a unique national identification code assigned to every holiday rental property in Italy. This regulation helps keep the rental market transparent and competitive, with all properties clearly identified and registered.

Key Deadlines and Requirements

The law went into effect on November 2, 2024. All rental properties should have obtained their CIN by January 1, 2025. If you haven't done so yet, it's essential to apply immediately to remain compliant.

How to Obtain Your CIN

To get your CIN, follow these steps:

• Visit the Ministry of Tourism's online platform, Banca Dati Strutture Ricettive (BDSR)
• Complete the application process for your rental property
• Receive your unique CIN code
• Display the CIN outside your property and include it in all rental listings (online and offline)

Safety Requirements for Your Rental

Along with displaying your CIN, all tourist rentals must meet these safety measures:

• Combustible gas and carbon monoxide detectors must be installed
• Fire extinguishers must be present in the property
• Professional rentals (those managed as a business) need to meet additional safety installation requirements
