Hayle is a sheltered river break that draws surfers of all abilities. In the summer it is mostly flat but then, the offshore winds offer waves at the river break both left and right. The most popular surfing spot on Hayle Towans is 'The Site', named after the caravan site located in the dunes behind. This part is more sheltered from the swell. There are several surfing schools that can help you in your first steps into surfing. If you want to improve, or if you are a skilled surfer, ride the waves at Towan beach, a surfing hot-spot in the middle of downtown Newquay, Bedruthan Steps, Perranporth, or Watergate Bay. Walkers love Hayle and all the pathways are well maintained and easy to explore. Get your boots ready for walking!

If you walk up to Trencrom Hill, which is around 175 metres high, you will be at the highest point in the ancient borough of Penwith. From here you can get stunning sea views ideal for a picture-perfect snap! To the east you will see Hayle, and to the west, you will sight Mount Bay and St Michael's Mount.

Hayle has some independent shops for you to browse and have some time of retail therapy. For surfing fans, Down the Line is the shop to go. Potter around Hayle Emporium and you will find unique and unusual items, furniture, antiques and one-of-a-kind pieces. Mutton Cove, near Godrevy beach, is a great spot for spotting the chubby seals from a cliff.
