Location and orientation

A tourist commune of the Côte d'Or

The municipality of Beaune is located in the Côte d'Or department and has a population of approximately 22,000. It is about 45 kilometres from Dijon and 1h30 by road from Lyon. It borders Pommard, Montagny-lès-Beaune, {{Levernois}{33147} and Vignoles. Beaune is on the edge of the Paris basin and is part of the Route des Grands Crus, a tourist route that crosses the Burgundy vineyards.

The capital of Burgundy wines

Beaune is even considered as the capital of Burgundy wines. Its half-timbered houses are among its notable features, but this municipality attracts visitors' interest in two other ways. On the one hand, they come to meet wine producers and wine merchants who live in Beaune or in the surrounding villages. On the other hand, they take advantage of their stay to visit its many monuments which legitimately make it a city of art and history.

Hiking around Beaune

A bag full of food and good shoes will be enough for you to explore Beaune and its surroundings! Several trails are attractive, such as the Rhoin Valley tour, a walk accessible to the general public and the ridge circuit, an itinerary reserved for experienced hikers.

The cellars and estates of Beaune

The cellars of the Pays Beaunois shine well beyond Burgundy and our borders! The various houses that make up this terroir welcome connoisseurs and neophytes and immerse them in a unique atmosphere. The commented tastings and explanations on the production of the wines are very enriching.

This small town is considered as the capital of Burgundy wines.

Top 5 things to do

The Hôtel-Dieu Museum

If there was only one monument to discover in Beaune, it would undoubtedly be this remarkable building for more than one reason. It is characterised by its flamboyant Gothic style, as evidenced by the glossy tile roofs of Burgundy to be seen in the inner courtyard. Among the other treasures preserved in this museum, it is difficult not to mention the polyptych of the Last Judgment, located in the room of the same name, a moving work!

The Bouzaize Park

Beaune is a flowered city rewarded with 4 flowers. This distinction attests to the attractiveness of its green spaces, as evidenced by the superb Parc de la Bouzaize. It extends over 5 hectares and attracts the people of Beaunne all year round. For example, you can share a delicious picnic near the lake in a shaded area. The park also features a playground dedicated to children and the various animals that give life to this natural space.

Notre-Dame Collegiate Church

The oldest parts of this Romanesque basilica date from the 12th century. It is particularly distinguished by its Saint-Léger chapel decorated with wall paintings and its large imperial roof. During your visit, linger on the 15th century tapestries, you will certainly fall under their spell!

The Burgundy Wine Museum

It immerses visitors in the history of the vine from antiquity to the 20th century.
