Villas in Istria

Villas in the heart of the Adriatic Sea

The Istrian peninsula offers superb locations to find fantastic villas for your next holiday. The medieval villages which offer plenty of historic sites and charming spots are the ideal base to get to know this beautiful part of Croatia. Stay in a villa in Pula, Rovinj or Porec, three of the main towns in Istria and close to the sea. You might also like a villa in the villages of Groznjan, Zavrsje or Motovun, surrounded by unspoilt nature.

Traditional and modern villas

The port city of Pula offers traditional villages in a unique setting. Rovinj welcomes its visitors with Venetian-inspired facades and Porec is full of nightlife for those looking for a lively atmosphere. Your villa in Istria allows you to enjoy the beaches as well as the comfort of traditional or modern properties including all the amenities you need for a fantastic time. Besides the sea, if you prefer some privacy you can choose villas with private gardens and swimming pools.

Travellers and activities

Istria for culture lovers

Istria was under the invasion of several civilisations including the Greeks and the Romans. Pula still houses the well preserved Roman amphitheatre and the temple of Augustus. Many other romanesque buildings and fortresses can be enjoyed in Motovun or Porec. The latter is home to an Euphrasian basilica with golden mosaics. A great piece of art that will marvel every visitor. Immerse yourself in the ancient cultures that were part of this beautiful peninsula and admire their legacy.

Istria for romantic holidays

Looking for a romantic destination? The Istrian peninsula is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway. You can enjoy fantastic days at the beautiful beaches and its picturesque villages. Enjoy a stopover in the lovely village of Hum for a romantic walk in the park and a delicious dining. If you like nature, a boat trip to Brijuni Islands will allow you to discover this natural paradise at your own pace with your other half. Can you think of anything more romantic than a stroll along the marina while the sun sets down in the horizon? In Rovinj you can have this magical moment, capturing it with your camera and create a memory that will last for years to come.

Did you know Istria’s soil is rich in truffles and that the largest black truffle was found near Buje in 1999?

Top 7 travel tips in Istria

1. Enjoy the Istrian flavours

Istria is a land of unique flavours. Traditional recipes blend in with the new ones without losing its essence. Black and white truffles are the stars in many dishes so you can try them and experience by yourself why this little product is so appreciated. Seafood is also another main product used in the region as well as their olive oil locally produced. Try some prsut, cheese and polenta, local meats and of course, their best Croatian wines.

2. It’s all about the truffles!

Truffle lovers and gourmet enthusiasts have an important appointment from September to November in the region of Motovun. They celebrate the Truffle Days, an exceptional event where the star is the truffle, of course. Throughout the event, many exhibitions take place, splendid fairs and succulent tastings to raise your taste buds and make an explosion of flavours in your mouth with every bite you take.

3. Visit Pula’s amphitheatre

The amphitheatre of Rome is very popular but Pula also has its own! This is the most emblematic monument of the village and the 6th largest amphitheatre in the world. Walk around the grounds and admire this piece of architecture. From the inside you will see the magnificent structure and how well preserved it is. Dating back from 68 A.D., it had capacity for 23,000 people.

4. Go to Kamenjak Nature Park

Not far from Pula there is Kamenjak Nature Park. The beaches in the park are an ideal spot to spend the day surrounded by stunning nature, shingle coves, small islands and rocky formations. Some of the best beaches there are Uvala Pinižule, Uvala Polije, Uvala Njive and Uvala Portic. Have a lovely day at the beach and unwind by the vivid green waters of the Adriatic Sea.

5. Plitvice Lakes, a paradise on earth

Plitvice Lakes National Park is worth a visit if you are in Croatia. Although it is not in the Istria peninsula, you can easily get there by car or on organised trips by bus. The park is popular for its 16 terraced lakes divided into 12 upper lakes and 4 lower ones. The wooden walkways take you to impressive waterfalls that extend into a limestone canyon. Several hiking trails make their way around and across the water amidst lush green vegetation that will leave you in awe. Take your picnic and spend a whole day surrounded by nature, wildlife and a fantastic landscape. So, take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.

6. Visit a winery

The viticulture in Istria is a long tradition and wine has always been an important part of Croatian gastronomy. To know more about their wines, you can take a tour of an old or a modern winery and taste some of their fresh, fruity white wine like the Istarska Malvasija or a smooth red Teran.

7. Istria on wheels

Cycling is one of the best things to do in Istria. Road cycling and mountain biking are very popular sports. You can follow marked cycling trails, passing through different scenery: from flat coastal trails to hilly hinterland. All levels are welcome and you can try the routes that better suit your fitness level. From March to October many cyclists take the roads to train for the season and some others just take pleasure rides with family and friends.
