Top 7 travel tips in Zadar

    1. Listen to the Sea Organ

Nikola Basic is the Croatian architect who designed the Sea Organ. This structure is made of white stone from the island of Brac. The steps have different holes where the water comes in and out creating the sounds of the organ. This has become one of the preferred spots for people to take a dip while waiting for the sun to go down in the horizon. Enjoy the views and listen to the swaying sound of the sea water inside the organ pipes.

    2. The Greeting to the Sun

Just next to the Sea Organ, there is another magnificent contemporary jewel known asThe Greeting to the Sun or Monument to the Sun designed by the Croatian architect, Nikola Basic. These glass plates are at the same level as the stone-paved promenade. Underneath the glass there are photovoltaic solar modules that slowly turn on as the light of day starts to fade. The colourful patterns are a unique show to watch as the sun sets in the distance. The meaning of this art piece is the communication between light and nature as the Sea Organ keeps playing its notes next to it.

    3. Watch the sunset

Watching the sunset in Zadar is a truly unique view. Even Alfred Hitchcock got in love with it naming it one of the best sunsets in the world. The nuances of red, yellow and orange fill up the sky as the sun slowly descends in the horizon. Sit by the Sea Organ, listen to the gentle music, let the gentle sea breeze caress your skin and enjoy the most spectacular views. This image will be in your memory forever.

    4. Explore the city

The enclosed city hides the history of Roman, Venetian and Austrian influence. Stroll around the old part of the city and discover the stunning St. Anastasia’s Cathedral or the Benedictine Convent. Zadar is a city with Roman ruins and medieval churches and great museums. The mix of ancient relics gives Zadar a unique flair with its coastal location and elegance.

    5. Enjoy Friyay!

Waiting for the weekend to arrive? Well, Friday is one of the most wanted days to arrive is it not? Zadar is a city that celebrates Fridays like no other! Croatians know how to start weekends properly. The whole city and its people like to dress up every Friday from June to September, to celebrate what they call the Friday Festice. The klapa groups are villagers dancing to the sound of music and expressing their heritage with rhythm and fun. Join them and feel the passion of music aas you have some nibbles available at the stalls that can be washed down with some traditional drinks as well. Make Friday count!

    6. Go to the beach

The beaches in the centre of the city are not known for their beauty, so if you are looking for idyllic beaches, you will find them in the surroundings. The most touristic area is Dražica beach, very close to the city. But less than 20 minutes by car there are also the Kraljičina plaža and Zaton Beach.

    7. Boat across the bay with a barkajol

Maybe you are wondering what a Barkajol is. "Would you like to take a boat ride?" was the question you could hear the most by the port. Here is where the barkajolis (boatmen) met to offer boat rides along the Riviera. You can still have a nice boat trip along the peninsula, where the barkajol will tell you different stories of the area. They know the area very well and some of them might even sing some songs to you! Enjoy the pleasant ride
