Estepona for hiking lovers

Estepona boasts incredible terrain of stunning beauty, surrounded by rolling hills, green vegetation and an ideal spot for hiking and walking lovers. Estepona immediate surroundings are quite easy and suitable for all levels of fitness but if you are looking for a challenging hike, then the Sierra Bermeja ranges are your next goal. Top 7 travel tips in Estepona

1. Discover the street art

Take a walk around the streets of Estepona and admire the impressive art street on several walls and buildings. There is a 6-block mural, the largest in Spain, that will really impress you. Take your camera and get the best snaps of this colourful and incredible talent.

2. Admire the orchids

Estepona’s orchidarium was opened in 2015 and now it is a very popular visit for tourists and locals alike. Enjoy a walk as you take a look at the 8,000 species, the largest flower in the world and the beautiful orchids. This is an educational and entertaining activity to enjoy in the morning or the afternoon if you want to escape the hot weather for a while.

3. Travel to Prehistory

Behind Sierra Bermeja there is the Corominas Megalithic Interpretation Centre, a museum and archaeology site. Here you can access dolmens more than 5,000 years old where burials were carried out during Prehistory. Of course, to visit them it is essential to make an appointment, usually on Saturdays. A fascinating visit for those interested in this period of history.

4. Enjoy Estepona’s nightlife

As day falls, life continues in Estepona. After dinner, the best option is to have a drink in one of the bars on Calle Real and then walk to the port, where most of the night atmosphere and vibes are. The area is divided into two heights. The first, with pubs attended by people between 20 and 35 years old; and the second, at the Puerto Deportivo level, where there are numerous cocktail bars and restaurants of all kinds. Enjoy some time chatting away, dancing and sipping your favourite cocktail.

5. Indulge in its traditional flavours

Estepona's cuisine is based on typical Andalusian dishes, where fish play a special role. In any of its restaurants you can taste sardines in skewers, fried anchovies or a delicious octopus dish. Although gazpacho, ajoblanco and campera soup are also traditional in this region. But if there is a dish that defines this town, that is undoubtedly the trout from Padrón. A unique species in the area that grows in the reed beds of the Padrón River and used to make the popular "fritá".

6. Enjoy the marina

At the southern end of town, you find the fantastic marina of Estepona. Here you can choose from several high end restaurants and lovely cafes to enjoy a nice meal or a delicious coffee. On Sundays, the town market is held here so you can browse the stalls and look for a bargain!

7. Active tourism in Los Pedregales

This park is located just 15 km from the town centre, in the Sierra Bermeja. A stunningly beautiful natural setting that offers spectacular views of the African coast and Gibraltar. The perfect place for those who enjoy hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding. It also has children's recreation areas and barbecue areas to enjoy a fabulous picnic. At the top there is the hermitage of San Isidro Labrador, which can be visited on Sundays.
