Swim at Playa de Magaluf
The resort's main beach is a wide arc of pale sand backed by a long promenade, and it is the reason most people book here. The water shelves gently, so it suits children as well as swimmers, and sun loungers, showers and beach bars run the length of it. Pedalos and paddleboards are available by the hour, and the walk back to the seafront apartments takes minutes. Arrive before ten in July and August if you want a spot near the water.
-
Splash around Katmandu Park
Katmandu Park is Magaluf's best-known attraction, an upside-down house turned adventure park with water slides, 4D shows, mini golf and a high ropes course. It works for a full day with children or a couple of hours in the late afternoon when the queues thin out. Tickets are cheaper booked online, and the park sits just behind the main strip, so you can walk there from most apartments rather than paying for a taxi or hunting for a car park.
-
Surf the Wave House
The Wave House is a beachfront club built around two artificial standing waves, where beginners take lessons on the smaller sheet and confident boarders take on the bigger one. Around the waves are pools, Balinese beds, a restaurant and a bar, so non-surfers can spend the day watching from a lounger. It is a good rainy-day fallback too, and the Californian-meets-Balearic atmosphere makes it one of the liveliest spots in town.
-
Shop at Momentum Plaza
Set out like an open public square rather than a covered mall, Momentum Plaza gathers around 5,000 square metres of shops, cafés and restaurants a short walk from the beach. High-street names such as Mango, Springfield and Ale-Hop sit alongside Balearic labels like Koala Bay, and there is a Starbucks for a break between browsing. It is an easy hour when the sun is at its fiercest, and the restaurants stay open into the evening.
-
Unwind on Son Matias Beach
Ten minutes on foot towards Palmanova, Son Matias is the calmer alternative to the main beach: golden sand, clear shallow water and a relaxed crowd of families and older couples. Loungers, parasols and a handful of beachside bars cover the essentials, and the pine-shaded promenade behind it links the two resorts. Come at the end of the day, when the light turns the bay copper and the terraces fill up for an early supper.
-
Sail to Cala d'Or
Majorca's east coast feels like a different world: a chain of narrow, pine-fringed inlets with turquoise water and small marinas. Cala d'Or is the easiest to reach for a long day out, roughly an hour by road, and boat trips run from its harbour to nearby coves such as Cala Mondragó. It also makes a natural second stop on a two-centre holiday, and our villas in Cala d'Or give you a base right beside the water.
-
Escape north to Pollença
For a change of scenery, head to the northern tip of the island where the Serra de Tramuntana meets the sea. Pollença's old town has a Sunday market, a shaded main square and the 365 steps of the Calvari to climb for the view, while Port de Pollença offers a long, shallow bay that is popular with sailors. The drive takes about an hour and a quarter, or stay a few nights in one of our apartments in Pollença.
