Holidays in La Baule

Location and orientation

The chic seaside resort on the ocean coast

A privileged destination in the Loire Atlantique, La Baule gained notoriety at the end of the 19th century with the arrival of the railway, linking the Guérande peninsula to Paris. From then on, the village of Escoublac attracted Parisian tourists to its dunes, especially artists and sportsmen, who made it famous as we know it today. La Baule then developed the infrastructures to satisfy this wealthy clientele from the capital: casino, English garden, seaside villas, beach cabins... The seaside resort was born. Still served by train, the city is now also easily accessible by car, less than 5 hours from Paris. In addition, low-cost airlines make it easy to reach Nantes, only 1 hour from La Baule. On site, a seaside holiday rental will allow you to do without the car and do everything on foot. A good excuse to strengthen your legs and put on your flip-flops and then stretch your toes in a fan on the beach. The more sporty ones will explore the surrounding cycle paths, in particular the old railway line linking La Baule to Guérande

A bay with a nautical vocation

We like to call it "the most beautiful beach in Europe". Although the title is not official, the fact remains that these 8 kilometres of sand make it one of the longest beaches in France. Along its embankment from Pornichet to Pouliguen, we cross the districts of La Baule-les-pins, La Baule Centre and Casino-Benoît. The landscaped promenade invites you to stroll while bathers enjoy the benefits of salt water. Here, at high tide and low tide, the sea occupies everyone's mind: you can sail, swim, ride on its white sand or relax on a deckchair.

An elegant destination for athletes, players and gourmets

Water sports activities

The cove is ideal for learning about the pleasures of water sports. The sails are moving and animate the bay at high tide. Others will move away from the beaches to fish in the open sea. Still others will follow the wild coast in search of an isolated cove. Sailing boats, windsurfing, kite-surfing or stand-up paddle, there is something for everyone

Barrier Series Casino

A visit to the casino facing the Atlantic will remain a privileged moment of your stay in La Baule. Open to all, Casino Barrière echoes the chic atmosphere of the seaside resort. There are playgrounds for children over 18 years old and a restaurant with an ocean view for the whole family. Vibrate on the slot machines or try your luck at board games with a sea view

Cuisine in the spotlight

With nearly ten restaurants classified as "Michelin Plate", internationally renowned names such as "Fouquet's" or even former starred restaurants that have preserved their gastronomic quality, La Baule has a number of good restaurants where you can taste the best of French cuisine

While the first station was inaugurated in 1876, with a link to the capital three years later, it was not until more than a century later that the TGV Atlantique (in 1989), which linked La Baule to Paris in three hours, arrived.

Top 5 things to do

The Dryades Park

Ideal to shelter from the wind that delights kitesurfers in the bay, Dryades Park is a haven of flowery peace, where you can enjoy a romantic or family stroll. A green theatre, there is a playground and picnic tables

The beach of La Baule

On the areas set up for cyclists or joggers, with water feet for walkers or swimming for the bravest, everyone can enjoy the eight kilometres of the bay of Pouliguen, which connects Pornichet to Pouligen in their own way. Surrounded by restaurants, shops, hotels and a casino, the seaside stroll is synonymous with holidays, shopping or sports training

Casino Barrière

Located along the promenade, Casino Barrière has contributed to the city's reputation. In the 1960s, All Paris was in a hurry. You could meet the artists and celebrities of the thirty glorious artists and celebrities whose portraits still adorn the walls of the Barrière group's hotels in La Baule: Claude François, Dalida, Johnny Halliday... La belle époque !

The castle of Cariel

Between Guérande and La Baule stands the Château de Careil. A relic of a rich defensive past, this 14th century manor house will make you discover its history in three formats: traditional visit, game visit or night discovery by candlelight

The salt marshes of Guérande

A stone's throw from the seaside resort are the salt marshes of Guérande. Renowned for the quality of their salt, a visit to the salt works will reveal the stages of salt formation, the work of the salt worker and the local fauna and flora. A walk that is both grandiose for its natural landscape and fun for adults and children alike
