1. Climb the Castillo de Fuste

   The squat round tower beside the marina is the reason the resort exists. Built in the 1740s as the Torre de San Buenaventura, it guarded the bay against pirate raids and lime-kiln traders, and it still gives the best short walk in town. Follow the promenade round from the beach, climb the low wall for a view across the harbour, then carry on to the cafés on the seafront. It takes half an hour, and it is the easiest way to get your bearings on a first evening.

2. Swim in the sheltered bay

   Caleta de Fuste's beach is man-made and protected by two breakwaters, which is exactly why families keep coming back. The water stays shallow and almost wave-free, the golden sand runs for around 700 metres, and lifeguards, showers and sunbed hire are all on hand. Pedalos and kayaks launch from the eastern end, while the promenade behind is flat enough for buggies and wheelchairs.
