FAQs: Pet-friendly holidays in Majorca

What's the best time of year to go to Mallorca with my dog?

Mallorca is ideal for dogs from September to mid-June. It's best to avoid the summer months of July and August. With highs of 30°C, the temperatures are just too hot for dogs to enjoy themselves. The crowds may also be overwhelming for your pet.

How can I take my dog on the plane?

Check in advance. Some budget airlines, such as RyanAir, do not allow dogs at all. Others will have different rules depending on the size of the dog. You may be able to travel with a small dog in a carrier in the cabin, but larger pets will need to go in the hold. Before travelling, it's a good idea to train your dog to feel comfortable in a carrier, as flying can be a stressful experience for animals.

What are the local laws about dogs in public?

Legally, you are obliged to keep your dog on a lead at all times in public. You'll soon see that not all locals follow this rule, but it's better to be safe than sorry. You are risking a fine if your dog goes out and about without a lead. Consult Spain's dangerous dog list before travelling. If your dog breed is on the list, they must also be muzzled in public. You will need to clean up after your dog. This means not just carrying bags, but also a squirt bottle of water to spray if your pet leaves any wet patches on lampposts or walls.
