FAQs: Pet-friendly holidays in Ibiza

Can I take my dog on public transport in Ibiza?

Most buses in Ibiza are dog-friendly, but it's ultimately a matter for the driver's discretion. Generally, you'll find that small dogs are welcome, and if they're in a carrier, there won't be any complaints. Big dogs may cause more problems, depending on the driver. Your dog will need to be leashed and under control while on the bus, and if another passenger complains, you may have to get off. Dogs are permitted on the ferry between Ibiza and Formentera, but you should book in advance, as they will need to be crated.

Can I let my dog run around off-leash?

Legally, dogs must be leashed while in public in Spain. If your dog is considered to be a dangerous breed, it must also wear a muzzle. You're bound to see some owners flouting these laws, but take care, as you face a fine.

What are the laws about cleaning up after my dog?

In Spain, you are legally obliged to clean up if your dog makes a mess outdoors. As well as a bag to scoop things up, you'll need a bottle of water. The law obliges you to squirt water over any wet patches your dog leaves in the street.
