Tips from local hosts

Where to eat, what to see, and how to make the most of your holiday based on local experience

Spain

I'm Rebecca, your Holidu host in Spain.

What I would not miss here:

  • Walk Casares itself, get lost in the white streets and climb to the castle for the view
  • Hike the Sierra Crestellina
  • A day on the beaches at Casares Costa, ending with lunch by the sea

Where I send guests to eat:

  • Sarmiento Brasa Andaluza: Andalusian cooking, good meat and seasonal produce over coals
  • The roadside ventas out of Casares, an experience in themselves
  • La Sal, by the sea: fish, shellfish and rice dishes
  • Local dishes worth trying: chivo, artisan goat's cheese and gazpacho casareño

What you should see and do:

  • Feria del Santo Cristo de Casares in September: a proper Andalusian verbena in the old town, with most of the village out for it

What to take home:

  • Something made here rather than a souvenir: artisan goat's cheese, olive oil, honey
  • The Sierra Crestellina goat's cheese is the local one

My advice for your stay:

  • Do not try to do too much. Slowing down is one of the best things about this area
  • Explore Casares in the morning, take a long lunch, walk in the country or go to the beach
  • Leave time to sit still, watch the birds and look at the sunset
Best travel time:The best time to visit is spring or autumn, with warm sunny days perfect for walking, exploring the white villages, and enjoying nature.
I recommend Spain for
  • Beaches
  • Hiking
  • Historic sites
  • Wellness (spa, thermal baths, etc.)
  • Family-friendly stay
