1. Visit Gran Canaria's very own Sahara

   The Dunes of Maspalomas are one of the great treasures of Gran Canaria, a protected nature reserve that feels like a slice of the Sahara. The area is home to several rare species, including flamingos and giant lizards. Walk the marked paths at sunrise or late afternoon, when the light is at its softest and the dunes glow, then cool off on the long beach that fringes them.
