1. Explore the Cueva de los Verdes

   In the north of the island near Haría, the Cueva de los Verdes is a spectacular lava tube formed during a volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, that today can be visited on a guided tour. The acoustics are remarkable, and there is a surprise optical illusion towards the end that delights visitors of all ages.

2. Marvel at Timanfaya National Park

   Timanfaya National Park is Lanzarote's most famous sight, a Martian landscape of craters and lava fields created by eruptions that lasted six years in the 1730s. From the visitor centre you can take a coach tour across the Montañas del Fuego, watch geothermal demonstrations where water turns instantly to steam, and even try food grilled using the earth's natural heat.

3. Discover the Jameos del Agua

   Designed by the artist César Manrique, the Jameos del Agua is a series of caverns transformed into a stunning cultural space. At its heart lies an underground saltwater lagoon home to tiny blind albino crabs found nowhere else on Earth. Above ground you will find lush gardens, a turquoise pool and a concert auditorium with extraordinary acoustics.

4. See El Golfo and the Laguna Verde

   On the south-western coast, the village of El Golfo sits beside a half-submerged volcanic crater. Over time the Atlantic has eroded the cone, leaving a dramatic wall of red and ochre rock that shelters the Laguna Verde, a striking emerald-green lagoon coloured by unique microorganisms.
