This popular climb has been around since 1811, and stretches approximately 4 miles, taking you over steep terrain to an impressive altitude of 1,200 ft. Its name is due to the fact that the entire route forms a kind of big horseshoe. Many people choose to do this route on foot, although due to its nature, it is not the most appropriate for beginners. This ancient medieval castle stands on a hilltop just outside the town of Llangollen. Today it is in ruins, so it is not clear when it was built, but the structure that can be seen today is speculated to have been erected in the 1260s.
